Corpus Christi Bay Platform Sites
A permanently-installed platform is maintained with an array of submersible and meteorological sensors for continuous monitoring. These sensors are intended to characterize baseline environmental conditions and monitor for natural and anthropogenic events (eq. Storms, oil spills, algal blooms). This platform in located at a depth of 4 meters and in close proximity to the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.
Three mobile platforms are currently under construction. The mobile platforms will support the same instrument payload as the permanent structure and will be deployed in water depths of 2-4 meters. The mobile units consist of a buoyant base that supports a mast and instrument platform. Deployment simply requires the platform to be floated and towed to location, then scuttled. At the end of the deployment period the platform is to be re-floated and towed to the new location or brought to shore for maintenance.
