Shoreline Environmental Research Facility (SERF)

Introduction
SERF is a $5 million facility that simulates coastal environments to study processes controlling contaminate fate, effects and remediation. The facility consists of the following:
1) Nine wave tanks capable of simulating both tides and waves with a continuous or recycled supply of fresh or sea water.
2) Permitted to test crude oil, refined oil, and spill response agents.
3) On-site labs (toxicology, general chemistry, sample handling). A Toxicity laboratory is housed at SERF. Available protocols include acute water column toxicity testing with fish and invertebrates using continuous flow and static toxicity chambers. Static amphipod toxicity protocols are used for acute sediment toxicity testing. Microtox is also available for rapid toxicity determinations and screening in College Station.
4) Two new facilities have been added to SERF in recent months, including an Administrative building and a Deployment/Electronics Lab.
