Linking to a PDF File or a PowerPoint Presentation on your Web Page

1. First you need to put the file that you want to link to on the server. Start by opening the page that you want to place the files on in Internet Explorer, and from the menu, select "File", and "Edit with Microsoft FrontPage". To the left of the page you should also see the file structure. If you don't then go up to "View", and select "Folder List"

A Note on the placement of files:

You want to make sure and place the file in the right place in the file structure of the web site. For instance, I place the tutorials on web design in the Support/WebSupport file folder. It is a good rule of thumb to place the file in the same folder as the web page that it is going to be linked on.

2. Now you can minimize FrontPage and go to the "My Documents" folder on your computer. Open the folder that your file is in, select it and and right-click on it. Choose "Copy".

3. Now maximize FrontPage and surf to the folder in the Folder list that you want your file to be in. Right-click on the folder and choose "Paste" from the menu that appears.

4. Now type the name or descriptor of the file on the page, select it, and right-click. Choose "Hyperlink". Surf to the file in the window that appears, and then click the "Target Frame" button. Select "New Window", and then press OK to close the two windows. You should see that the file name is now underlined on the page. Now you can save your web page, which will automatically publish the changes.
