Standards and Formatting

This is the order in which I would format a new web page for the CBI website. If you follow this formula, you should have a nice, clean page that looks like the others on the site.

Page Title (This is the title that appears at the very top of your browser when you are visiting a web page.)

  • Right click on the page and select "Page Properties"

  • You will see a text field labeled "Title". Type the title of your page there.

Rollover Effects: (When a hyperlink is passed over on a page, it turns blue.)

  • Now in the same box, click the "Formatting" tab.

  • Now select the colors that you see below.

  • Now click the "Advanced tab"

  • Check the box that says "Enable rollover effects", and then click "Rollover Stle beside it.

  • Now you will need to designate the Font, Font Style, Size, and Color of the Rollover the Effect. All this does it make it so that when a hyperlink is passed over on a page, it turns blue.

    • Font: Verdana

    • Style: Normal

    • Size: 10 pt

    • Color: Bright blue (see example below)

Basic Page Layout (Paragraph spacing, Font and Horizontal lines)

  • I find that is easier to go ahead and type all the content that I want onto a page first, and then format the page.

  • After you have added your content, type Ctrl + A to highlight everything on the page.

  • Now go to the menu at the top and select "Format"

  • In the window that results, make the spacing before and after equal to 1

  • Now do Ctrl + A again and go to Font menu at the top. Select Verdana 10 pt.

  • As you see in the CBI pages, I use horizontal lines to separate sections, and always use one beneath the title of the page. To do this simply select "Insert" from the top menu, and then "Horizontal line". After the line has been inserted, you will need to format it. To do this, select the line and right click on it. From the menu that results, select "Horizontal Line Properties". In the window, make the following selection:

Your line should look like this:

Notes:

  • Sometimes when you work within a page, the settings that you have previously made do not carry throughout your new additions. Therefore after you add and change things, you may need to go back and Ctrl + A everything again and reset the paragraph spacing and font of your page.
