I found my REU experience to be valuable in a number of ways--especially in preparing me for my senior biology seminar. Not only did I gain research and presentation experience last summer, but I also adapted some of our results to serve as the basis for the seminar itself. I made a presentation on the ecological effects of the Texas brown tide to the entire biology department and was very well-received. After graduation in May, I took somewhat of an academic hiatus at home, working in a coffeeshop/cafe........but now I've moved to Columbia, MO and will be starting a Ph.D. program in biology (and a graduate teaching assistantship) at the University of Missouri in just a few days. I really believe that my experience at A&M helped elevate me over other candidates for the available position, so I would like to thank you again for allowing me to participate in REU 2001. I can't think of another undergraduate program in which I would have had access to the types of resources and the caliber of colleagues that REU offered. |
