Name of Program: "Undergraduate Research in Biodiversity and Ecological Processes in Fluctuating Environments"

Program Description: This is an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes an integration of engineering and life science technologies for studying biodiversity and ecological processes. The program is designed for undergraduates in environmental engineering, environmental science, or any of the life science disciplines. The program will offer opportunities in bioinformatics, molecular genetics and molecular phylogenetics, ecological modeling, ecotoxicology, geographic information systems, bioremediation, monitoring, and basic field studies in ecology and environmental biology.

Organizations: The program involves faculty members from the Department of Biology, the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries Sciences, and the Department of Civil Engineering (Division of Environmental and Water Resources) at Texas A&M University College Station.

When: We will begin accepting applications for Summer 2006 on January 2, 2006.  The internship is tentatively scheduled to start in late May and conclude in early August 2006. Evaluation of the applications will be an on-going process during the spring semester, and invitations will be offered on a continuing basis until all ten positions are filled.

Eligibility: This is a competitive program open to undergraduate environmental engineering/science majors and any of the life science majors. Ten positions are available. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Salary/Benefits: Salary will be $300 per week ( for 10 weeks). Also, a housing, food, and travel allowance will be provided. Students will receive 3 hours credit for undergraduate research, as well as training in "ethics in research".
